Joint School District Number 2 serves 384 square miles of Idaho's Treasure Valley in the southwest corner of the state. The District serves the communities of Star, Eagle, Meridian, and part of Boise, the state capitol, and Garden City. Serving a population of about 100,000 patrons, the district is known for its innovative approach to the delivery of public education.
Currently, the district has 28 elementary schools, 3 K-8 schools, 9 middle schools, 5 traditional high schools, and 3 alternative high schools. The district opened an arts and leadership magnet elementary school in the fall of 2004, the first magnet school in the state of Idaho. The school offers the arts - music, dance, drama and visual arts - integrated into a rigorous curriculum for students to excel in all academic areas. The district opened its second magnet arts school in the fall of 2005. Since 2005, the district has continued to expand choice with new offerings that include two math and science magnet schools, a math and technology magnet school, a core literacty magnet school, and next year the district will open a world languages elementary magnet school and a district-wide high school magnet.
