DISTRICT PROFILE

Joint School District Number 2 serves 384 square miles of Idaho's Treasure Valley in the southwest corner of the state. The District serves the communities of Star, Eagle, Meridian, and part of Boise, the state capitol, and Garden City. Serving a population of about 100,000 patrons, the district is known for its innovative approach to the delivery of public education.

Currently, the district has 28 elementary schools, eight middle schools, four traditional high schools, and three alternative high schools. The district is also the sponsoring entity for two charter high schools, Meridian Charter High School and Meridian Medical Arts Charter. Meridian Charter High School offers a curriculum with a strong emphasis in technology while Meridian Medical Arts has a primary curriculum focus on medical science and technology.

The district opened an arts and leadership magnet elementary school in the fall of 2004, the first magnet school in the state of Idaho. The school offers the arts, music, dance, drama and visual arts - integrated into a rigorous curriculum for students to excel in all academic areas.  The district opened its second magnet arts school in the fall of 2005.  Next year, the district will open a magnet school with a math and science emphasis that will serve grades K through 8.
