Page 1 of 4 WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR OF INSTRUCTION
- Cindy Sisson -
This page provides the information you need regarding the professional development offerings for the 2008-2009 school year in the Meridian Joint School District. This information is distributed to all staff members via the Internet with limited hard copies available in each building.
The District's Professional Development Committee has endeavored to address the needs/wants indicated by the staff from recent evaluations. These topics have been addressed in various ways--through university classes, workshops, and inservice day offerings. The committee has also worked to strike a balance between technology and curriculum/instruction topics in these various formats.
Please take time to read through the offerings in detail and select those that are of greatest interest/use to you. You should be able to match this "cafeteria" of offerings to the professional goals that you will set for the coming year.
Please note that university course offerings are graduate level courses. As such, the universities set specific standards for each course that dictate the number of "contact" hours, specific assignments to be completed by each course participant, and a requirement for work to be completed outside of class. As part of its commitment to providing quality inservice offerings, the Meridian School District emphasizes these expectations for all courses that will be offered through the professional development program. We continue to strive to provide courses of high quality that require graduate level effort from each participant.
We are pleased to offer a wide variety of courses, inservice and workshop opportunities for Meridian employees, and are committed to insuring that these offerings are of the highest possible quality. I wish to extend my thanks to the District Professional Development Committee for their efforts toward this end.
