Special Services: Annual Review of the Child's Program Print E-mail

Yearly IEP meetings will be convened and IEPs reviewed and revised. The student must be re-evaluated at least every three years (Reg. 300.534)

The IDEA mandates that the IEP team must be reconvened on a yearly basis to review and revise the child's IEP. When the IEP was written, the goals were stated in a manner that allows for measurement of the child's progress toward achievement of the goals. The teachers in the Joint School District #2 are accountable for collecting on-going systematic data that measures student gains. This continuous monitoring of student progress is necessary for the following reasons:

  • Provides accurate measurement of student progress toward goals
  • Indicates changes that need to be made in the student's program to ensure continued progress
  • Allows the student to progress at an optimal rate by revealing problems that may not be readily apparent
  • Reveals the presence of consistent learning patterns
  • Allows the teachers to make sound, educational, instructional decisions based on precise information

REMEMBER:
Although the law requires a yearly review of your child's progress, we strongly encourage you to contact your child's teacher at least quarterly to review your child's progress. As a parent you may call a meeting of the IEP team at any time that you may need information from the team of professionals who serve you and your child.
