Special Services: Eligibility Print E-mail

Once the evaluation is the complete, the evaluation team will meet and review all information gathered during the student's evaluation. Using established eligibility criteria, the evaluation team will determine whether your child has a particular category of disability and is in need of special education services.

All students found eligible under the IDEA will receive a free, appropriate, public education. (Reg. 300.13)

The Joint School District #2 provides special education services to all eligible students who reside within the local school district boundaries under the provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), as amended in 1997. This federal law mandates that the schools provide special education and related services to any student, ages 3- 21, who has been identified as an individual with a disability and who requires specialized instruction: (Reg. 300.7) In Idaho, students in need of specialized instruction and found to have any of the following disabilities are eligible to receive special education services:

  • Autism
  • Cognitive Impairment
  • Deaf-Blindness
  • Deafness
  • Developmental Delay
  • Emotional Disturbance
  • Health Impairment
  • Hearing Impairment
  • Learning Disability
  • Multiple Disabilities
  • Orthopedic Impairment
  • Speech or Language Impairment
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Visual Impairment including Blindness
