Page 1 of 3 Sometimes when we meet with you, we may forget and use professional jargon to explain things to you. When this happens, please ask us to explain what we mean. This glossary of terms if included for your convenience. CLASSROOM TERMS - IEP (Individual Educational Program):
Each child in special education has individualized goals and objectives that state the outcomes and instruction plan.
- IEP Team:
All of the professionals working with your child, parents, and other people that you may want involved in the development of your child's IEP and deciding on the appropriate educational placement for your child. - Goals:
Goals are broad statements that respond to the needs of the child. - Objectives:
Tasks or steps your child will need to complete in order to master their goals. - Evaluation Team:
You and qualified professionals who have the responsibility to make decisions about the evaluation and eligibility of your child for special education services. - LRE (Least Restrictive Environment):
The environment where your child can receive education with his or her typical peers to the maximum extent appropriate.
- IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act):
The public law that authorizes the provision of services for your child and safeguards your parental rights.
