Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where is Night School located?  How do I contact Night School?

A:Night School is located at Central Academy, 6075 N. Locust Grove, Meridian, Idaho, 83646.  The Night School Principal is there during the school year Monday-Thursday evenings from 4:15-9:45. Night School contact phone is 855-4323. A frequently updated greeting is available at that number for basic, time-sensitive information. Please leave a message if more information is needed. The principal is the only full school-year employee.

Q: What time do classes begin?

A: Classes run Monday-Thursday, 4:45-9:15 p.m. Holidays and district events may make it necessary to have classes on Fridays. See the Night School Calendar to see if this applies to your class.

Q: How long is each semester (or Term)?

A: Each Term runs approximately nine weeks. A semester’s worth of work is covered in that time. There are 4 “Terms” (comparable to a Day School Quarter) in the Night School academic year.  Begin / end dates of these Terms (and holidays, District days-off, etc.) closely parallel the Meridian Joint School District #2 Traditional Calender. Please see Night School Calender on this website for specifics.

Q: What days are classes held?

A: Classes are held either on a Monday / Wednesday or Tuesday / Thursday format. Two classes (2 credits) may be taken each 8-9 week Term.

Q:
How can I register for Night School?

A: ONLY DAY SCHOOL COUNSELORS AT A STUDENT'S TRADITIONAL SCHOOL CAN REGISTER A STUDENT FOR NIGHT SCHOOL.  THE ROLE OF NIGHT SCHOOL PERSONNEL DURING EACH OF THE 4 REGISTRATION WINDOWS IS TO VERIFY / COLLECT COMPLETED REGISTRATION FORMS AND COLLECT FEES.  Follow the steps below to ensure a smooth registration.

Step 1:
Seek prior approval
from your assigned day school counselor and parent by securing their signatures on the Night School Registration Form. If you currently do not attend day school, go to the last High School you attended for this consultation. Counselors will have Registration Forms or they can be printed from the Meridian School District web site HERE.

Step 2:
Students will bring Counselor-and-parent-approved Registration Forms and the required fees during designated registration dates and times.

INCOMPLETE REGISTRATIONS AND / OR REGISTRATIONS WITHOUT FEES WILL NOT BE PROCESSED and will be returned directly to the student.

NOTE: The "I'll wait and see if the course runs - then I'll register" approach is not advisable for many reasons:  the most critical 2 reasons are explained below.  #1 Failure to get Registrations in on time could directly effect whether or not the student's desired class will run.  Your registration might have been the one to tip the balance to make a class a "Go" class.  Not only you but up to 9 other students might not get the credit they need due to timidity or failure to pay attention to Registration procedures.   #2 Any delay of registration will delay your admission to the class once it begins and that time WILL COUNT AGAINST THE 8 HOURS YOU ARE ALLOTTED PER COURSE PER TERM.

Step 3:
On the Friday before the Term begins check the main page of the Night School portion of this website, at your day school's counselors’ offices, or the main entrance windows at Central Academy to see if your class is a “go” for that Term. If your class is a “go,” attend the first day of class and miss no more than 8 hours throughout the Term.

Q: What classes are offered at Night School? What is a Potential vs. a Finalized class list?

A: A Potential Class List is listed on the Registration Form and is the complete listing of the courses Night School offers. A Finalized, or "Go" Class List, cannot be posted until the registration period ends at the beginning of each Term.  After the Registration period, "Go" classes will be determined based upon minimum enrollment requirements: if a class does not get enough students, it cannot be offered that particular 9 week term.

 Q: Can I get a refund if I drop a class?

A: If a student drops a class within the first two class nights, they are eligible to receive a refund of the course fees, minus the $15 non-refundable registration fee.  All refunds will be made by check and sent to the address provided on the registration form.  Refunds should arrive 2-4 weeks after the start of the term.

Q: Can I get a refund if the school cancels a class?

A: The school may cancel a class if the number of students enrolled does not meet the minimum requirements.  Anyone enrolled in class that is canceled by the school will receive a full refund for that class.   All refunds will be made by check and sent to the address provided on the registration form.  Refunds should arrive 2-4 weeks after the start of the term.

Q: By attending Night School can I earn my diploma?

A: Diplomas can be issued from the Meridian Night School Program. It is critical that the prospective Night School graduate provide valid transcripts to the Night School Principal at the beginning of the Term in which they intend to graduate.

Q: How much does Night School cost?

A: Cost is $80.00 per credit ($90.00 for out-of-district students) plus a $15.00 non-refundable fee for each term. An $8.00 Late Fee is charged to those who do not register prior to the beginning of the Term.

Q:
Do I have to do the Senior Project if I take the supporting courses at Night School?

A: Yes. Only seniors will be registered for senior project.  Dates for the presentations at Night School are on the Night School calendar at the District web site.

Q:  How flexible is the Night School Attendance Policy in regards to special events and circumstances?

A: Students are allowed to miss 8 hours of instruction.  Missing time in excess of 8 hours will result in a loss of credit.  Students and families should consult their personal calenders prior to enrollment to ensure the 8 hours will not be exceeded in the assigned 8 to 9 week Term. The Alternative High School format of Night School (no homework, small classes, engaged, hands-on methods) necessitates full attendance to complete the program of instruction.  If a student exceeds 8 hours, he / she will be encouraged to register in the upcoming Term but will not receive credit in the current term and be dismissed.
