Parents and community members are encouraged to play an active role in the education of their children. Meridian School District values the partnership of parents in helping to enrich learning opportunities for students.
Keeping Informed
The district and schools within the district provides many formal and informal opportunities for parents to find out about their children's progress at school. For example:
ONLINE
- Power School: The district provides access to view students' grades, attendance and homework online. For more informationgo to the Power School home page.
- Online newsletter: Opt-in to receive electronically up-to-date district news and events through an email account. For more information go to the District Newsletter home page.
MAIL
- Reports on student performance: Schools provide reports to parents at the end of each semester to inform them of their children's progress.
- Newsletters: Many schools produce regular newsletters to inform parents, caregivers and community members about school activities, developments and initiatives.
- Letters: Schools often communicate information about specific issues relating to a student by way of a personal letter, usually sent home with the student.
IN PERSON
- Personal appointments: Parents are encouraged to meet with any staff member at a mutually convenient time at their child's school to discuss relevant issues and concerns, should the need arise.
- Parent-teacher nights: Class teachers often hold these nights at the start of the year to discuss class or year programs with parents. There are also opportunities to talk about issues or concerns and to ask how children are performing and progressing at school.
- Parent information-education nights: These nights are organised by the school to provide information about school administration, policies and activities.
