“Put on Your Thinking Caps!”
It is the final trimester of the school year, and we want to celebrate the academic improvements our students are achieving this year. We also want to encourage them to do their best in school these next two months by coming to school, working hard and learning as much as they can.
So we have planned a fun celebration called “Put on Your Thinking Caps!” Each student will be given a major-league baseball cap, courtesy of a donation.
Classroom teachers will label each student’s cap and have students leave them in class each day until the end of the year. Students can wear the caps at teacher discretion.
Each teacher will decide how to promote “Put on Your Thinking Caps!” in their classroom. Ideas could include tracking achievement goals on a chart or bulletin board with a baseball diamond theme. Rewards may be given as determined by teachers/staff and may include Ponderosa Pride Coupons, certificates of achievement, or classroom “bucks” to use at the classroom store.
Students’ academic achievement can be measured by improvement in such areas as:
· Reading Fluency (correct words read per minute)
· Reading Comprehension (Accelerated Reader, STAR)
· Math Facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division)
· Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) scores
· Idaho Standards Achievement Tests (ISAT): Reading, Math, Language Usage scores
· Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Reading, Math, Language scores
· Assignment/Work Completion
We want Ponderosa students to “Step up to the plate” and “Hit a homerun” when it comes to their academic success! We hope you will rally behind the “Put on Your Thinking Caps!” celebration and ask your child about what they are learning. Thanks for all you do to help your child come to school ready and excited to learn!
