What is Renaissance Magnet High School? Academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, exploratory learning, a desire to study and learn – these are all phrases that describe the Renaissance Magnet High School experience. Service to community and a focus on becoming a life-long learner can be added to the list. Renaissance Magnet High School is a new opportunity that will be available to high school 9th and 10th graders starting in the fall of 2009.
What Will Students Experience?
Students at Renaissance High School will pursue one of three unique academic programs. While working on their area of interest, students will have the ability to earn college credits through agreements with area universities, International Baccalaureate Certificates or an IB Diploma. The Renaissance High School program will give students a competitive edge during their college admissions process.
Juniors and seniors at Renaissance High School will choose to specialize in Law and Leadership, Research and Medical Arts, or International Studies. In their freshman and sophomore years, students will prepare themselves for these areas of interest and for the rigorous course of study that they will provide.
Law and Leadership The Law and Leaderhip program is designed for students who are either interested in a career in law or a career in civic leadership. The program is being designed with the help of prominent members of the legal profession, including a former Idaho Supreme Court Justice, and in partnership with the University of Idaho School of Law and the Boise State University and Northwest Nazarene Political Science Departments.
Research and Medical Sciences
The Medical Sciences emphasis is designed for students who are interested in becoming a physician, nurse, physician’s assistant, veterinarian, emergency medical assistant -- in short students who plan on entering the field of medicine or who want to do research as a scientist in the medical field. This program has important partnerships with members of Idaho’s medical community, the WWAMI program, and Idaho State University, the state’s health sciences university.
International Studies A career in international business, as a US Diplomat, or working with a non-governmental agency that is trying to solve some of the most perplexing world issues - these are some of the careers that the program in International Studies will prepare students for. Other examples might be a career as a language specialist in the US military or as a teacher in a U.S. World School.
International Baccalaureate Program At Renaissance High School, students will have the opportunity to take courses from The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme, which offers a challenging two-year curriculum for high school students. Students will either earn IB certificates in individual classes or an IB Diploma, depending on their area of interest. Both diplomas and certificates are qualifications that are widely recognized by the world’s leading universities. Currently, Renaissance is an IB candidate school that has successfully completed the first part of the application process and is working on successful completion of the second half of the application.
