The six middle schools and two alternative middle schools in Idaho's Joint School District Number 2 consist of grades six, seven, and eight. The middle school educational program is designed to capture interest, develop learning skills, improve academic achievement and enhance self-concept. Programs of study include English/language arts, reading, mathematics, social studies, science and physical education/music. Middle school electives include band, art, Spanish, German, Latin, and Japanese, home economics, and courses in technology.

An interscholastic program is offered at the middle schools. Middle school students participate in boys football, basketball, track, and tennis and girls volleyball, basketball, track and tennis. Intramural programs consist of a wide range of team and individual activities. All activities are designed for equal participation of both boys and girls and, along with staff participation, are often geared toward community involvement.

The district's alternative middle school is designed to offer a program for at-risk students. With its small student population and individualized attention, it has proven very successful since opening for the 1997-1998 school year.
