Getting Started
Requirements for taking Global Perspectives:
Besides having access to a computer with reliable internet and email applications, the computer(s) that you use for this class MUST have the following software to successfully compete the required lessons:
- Microsoft Word: Hopefully, all of you have this basic word document program on your computer.
- Microsoft Power Point: If your computer does NOT have Power Point, there is a FREE version of "Power Point" available on Meridian School Districts web site. Go to meridianschools.org and find the link at the top of the page entitled "Web Site Help" and click on it.
- Adobe Reader: If your computer does NOT have Adobe/Acrobat Reader, go to meridianschools.org and find the link at the top of the page entitled "Web Site Help" and click on it.
- Microsoft Publisher: This software is "highly recommended" but NOT required.
- Textbook: No books to check out to you! No fines to pay if you "mess up the text" and most importantly no book to loose!! The world wide web is your book!!! Some kind of general world atlas will be helpful but not required and these can be found online also. Go to worldatlas.com and save this web site in your favorites. You will need it for Unit A
- Lastly, you should have a removable memory stick and/or disk at your disposal for the purpose of backing up and saving your work to someplace other than your hard drive. Save and save often and save to different places when something like your grade is on the line because cyberspace can be a scary and mysterious place when it comes to sending your hard earned assignments to me
Directions for starting your first assignment:
In the links found in the Navigation Bar on the right side of this page is the essential information that I would be telling you in the first few days of class.... (that is....if I was looking you in the eye right now, instead of having to "talk" to you through cyberspace on your computer)
Your first task is to read through ALL of the information found in the "Article Index" links on the right side of this page. After you have read this page, start your journey through this course by "clicking" on the Contact Info "link" and familiarize yourself with the information found there. When you are done reading through the Contact Info section, continue through the ALL of the other sections of the course linked on the Navigation Bar (except for the Assignments section.) The complete and accurate reading of the information found in the navigation bar is VITAL if you expect to do well on your first assignment!! When you are done with ALL OF THAT READING!!..."click" on the Assignments section, located on the Navigation Bar to the left, and go to Unit A and find the Lesson #1 - Course Introduction lesson. Follow the directions found there and send me your very first assignment. Are you excited? Get busy because I can't wait to see your first assignment!
