SELECTING AND APPLYING TO COLLEGES

  • The College Choice and Financial Aid Home Page
    This site offers ranking and "star" evaluations of college admission and financial aid resources, both paper-based and Internet-based--a sort of US News ranking of college admission.
  • College Express
    A student-oriented site that offers the promise of a full range of college admission information, including virtual tours. At this point however, few institutions have subscribed to interactive features of the site, so it is most useful for its excellent financial aid links and Generic admissions procedures.
  • College Net
    This is a searchable database of colleges, scholarship opportunities and academic resources. It offers a comprehensive college/university index with good graphics and some interesting; resources for financial aid and scholarships.
  • CollegeLink
    A fee-based storehouse (free until you decide to use the service) of many college applications The applicant downloads custom software, and submits application information. The service custom-prints each selected college's application and sends each back to the student for signature and mailing.
  • CollegeView
    A "lite" version of the proprietary, CD-ROM based college information software, the Web version contains some multimedia college tours, a searchable database and financial aid data. The CollegeView interface scores high marks in ease of use and navigation. WebView multimedia presentations include text, graphics, audio clips, InfoZap electronic mail, and hot links to colleges' home pages.
  • Peterson's Education Center
    Peterson's college database is available on this Home Page, as is other educational and career information.
  • XAP Universities and Colleges
    Allows downloading of computerized school applications for printing and completion at home. Largely California based.
  • The Princeton Review
    The Princeton Review is a major publisher of college guides and test-preparation books and software. You'll find samples of everything here, including an SAT you can download and take for practice, and detailed info on more than 300 top colleges.
  • Kaplan Education Centers
    The arch competitor of the Princeton Review in the test-preparation business Kaplan has a useful site with similar info.
  • U.S. News Online College Fair
    U.S. News rattles cages every year with these rankings of top colleges and universities.
  • YAHOO College Entrance Page
    One of the most popular and easy ways to find and link to a particular college, along with dozens of indices, including the college's e-mail, departments, and student clubs. .Also, a great place to look for just about anything you can imagine. One of the most used sites on the web.
